Filet Lace

A traditional handicraft of shantou ( swatow ) and fujian , filet lace is also called mesh hole lace . it is made of strong cotton threads which are woven by hand into meshes like a fishnet . the number of holes per square inch ranges from 49 to as fine as 81 . patterns such as plum blossom and bamboo are then braided into the mesh . filet lace is sometimes combined with other embroidered squares of cotton , linen or organdy to make tablecloths and other household items . it is also good curtain material .
